Angels Pray for Us - By GOD's Design | Enoch Explained | Ep 21 Book of Enoch Bible Study

The Book of Enoch settles the debate on whether or not angels intercede and pray for mankind, but there’s evidence in the Bible as well. In this episode of Enoch Explained, we read Enoch’s vision of heaven where he sees the righteous who have passed away living amongst GOD’s holy angels.

Part 21 of a verse-by-verse study of the Book of Enoch (also known as 1 Enoch). This episode covers Enoch 39:1-5.

Thanks for watching, and hope you enjoy.

Questions about Enoch?

Transcript:

Carlos: Dawson wants to put this in context where we last left off.

Dawson: Yes.

Carlos: We were talking about …

Dawson: We were talking about Enoch saw the day when Yashua comes back with all the saints to execute judgment on the wicked. With that in mind, verse 1 of chapter 39, I’ll tell you right off the bat, is a bad translation.

Carlos: If I would have read this back in the day, I would have stampeded.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: Amen. But we’re here to teach Hanuk.

Dawson: Yes. “And it shall come to pass in those days that elect and holy children will descend from the high heaven and their seed will become one with the children of men.”

Carlos: Now, if you take this as future, I would stampede right here.

Dawson: Yeah, because the way it’s written, it sounds like in Millennium, when Yashua comes back, you’re going to have angels that are going to be mixing with men.

Carlos: And we already know Father said that’s no, no, He just never changes ways.

Dawson: No, it’s not going to happen. That is not future tense. That is present tense for Enoch. So, the better translation says in those days, sons of the chosen and holy were descending from the highest heaven and their seed was becoming one with the sons of men.

Carlos: Amen. And we’re going to find as we read, the rest of the things he says confirms it.

Dawson: Yeah. So, what Enoch is talking about here is that back in his day, the angels, there were angels that fell from heaven, just like Jude says, and they were intermingling with women and producing offspring called Nephilim, like we’ve gone over before.

Carlos: Amen. And no, those Nephilim were judged.

Dawson: There will be no new Nephilim in the future. Absolutely not.

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: Okay. So, verse two says – verse two is more properly in present tense to Enoch, right?

Carlos: More in tune.

Dawson: Yeah. “And in those days, Enoch received books of zeal and wrath and books of disquiet and expulsion and mercy shall not be accorded to them, saith the Lord of Spirits.”

Carlos: Now, who’s he talking to?

Dawson: The fallen angels from those days.

Carlos: That there is no rest for their – the Nephilim, there’s no rest for them and the children. We had angels that had children. Those are Nephilim. No rest for them. And some of those Nephilim had other children. Those are Eliouds.

Dawson: Eliouds.

Carlos: Eliouds. Depends if you’re Yiddish or not, I always say. So, the Nephilim and the Eliouds, no, there’s no rest for those spirits. Those are demons that hurt men even unto this day, but not Father’s children. Simple as that.

Dawson: Right.

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: “And in those days, a whirlwind carried me off from the earth and set me down at the end of the heavens. And there I saw another vision, the dwelling places of the holy and the resting places of the righteous.” Here, it’s important to note where Enoch was taken. He’s taken, for this vision, he’s taken to heaven. And he’s seeing the resting places of the righteous. So those who have died, passed away and are in heaven.

Now, earlier we talked about Sheol in a prior episode, and how it’s consistent throughout the Old Testament that when people died back in the day, they went to Sheol. And there was a part of Sheol that was set aside for the righteous.

Carlos: Paradise.

Dawson: Paradise.

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: Abraham’s bosom, as Yashua calls it.

Carlos: It looks like any one of our Father’s Alphabet videos.

Dawson: Why do you say that?

Carlos: When we see those videos, people think we’re in Millennium, we’re in paradise.

Dawson: Oh, yeah, yeah, we’ve got it.

Carlos: Amen. So, it feels good to be there.

Dawson: Yeah. So even when the righteous were in Sheol, it wasn’t like some horrible, dark place. There are horrible, dark places in Sheol that are reserved for the wicked.

Carlos: Amen. And those who rejected Him.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: But no, there’s no suffering for those who walk in righteousness and Father. They are the apple of His eye, even when they go to Sheol.

Dawson: Yes.

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: So, from the days of Yashua, those that are His, we don’t go to Sheol anymore. It was prophesied through King David that He would take them from Sheol. And so, we believe that that occurred either at the crucifixion or sometime between crucifixion and resurrection.

Carlos: I believe He went down to hell, took the keys, and brought victory to everyone who wanted to go with Him finally.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: Amen. There’s no sting in death no more.

Dawson: So, He took the righteous dead out of Sheol.

Carlos: Give me those keys.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: I love that.

Dawson: And since those days, when you pass away, you go to Him in heaven. And this is what Enoch is seeing, the righteous in heaven.

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: Verse 5 says, “Here mine eyes saw their dwellings and His righteous angels.”

Carlos: Now these are the good ones.

Dawson: Righteous angels.

Carlos: Righteous. Notice the other ones didn’t say that.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: These are the righteous ones.

Dawson: Yes. “And their resting places with the holy. And they petitioned and interceded and prayed for the children of men. And righteousness flowed before them as water. And mercy like dew upon the earth. Thus, it is amongst them forever and ever.”

Carlos: Now that sounds pretty Catholic.

Dawson: Yes. So, there is a centuries-old debate about whether or not angels pray for us. And here we have it in Enoch. This is one of a few places that it is in Enoch where it’s obvious that angels pray and intercede for men.

Carlos: You know, don’t stampede.

Dawson: Yes.

Carlos: Take it easy. Take it easy. We’re teaching. What it teaches for real, what it’s saying.

Dawson: One of the reasons that there’s such a huge debate on this topic is most Christian Protestant teachers don’t want their congregations praying to angels.

Carlos: Do not pray to angels.

Dawson: We don’t pray to angels.

Carlos: Do not. Do not.

Dawson: But that doesn’t mean that angels don’t pray for us.

Carlos: Now it says clearly that angels are assigned to us. And they’re ministering spirits, but we’re not to interfere with them. They report to Father, not to us.

Dawson: So, in Matthew, Yashua says, “Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones. For I say unto you that in heaven, their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.”

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: So, who are His little ones?

Carlos: Anyone who has the Lord Jesus Christ in their heart as the Holy Spirit has been baptized and you love Father and you love Yashua. Amen. Anyone Spirit-filled.

Dawson: Yeah. And so, Father loves us and he wants to be surrounded by reminders of us. And He created angels in part to be ministering spirits to us is what the New Testament teaches.

Carlos: The angels are ministering spirits unto us. We do not pray unto them for anything. We pray directly to our Father in heaven through our only possible mediator, not an angel, Yashua.

Dawson: Yes. And …

Carlos: To be clear.

Dawson: Being the mediator is different from being an intercessor, which we’ll get to in just a second.

Carlos: Amen. They’re cousins.

Dawson: But I wanted to show you the word “prayer” in Paleo-Hebrew because it’ll help you kind of understand. A lot of people think that prayer is like a ritual-type thing and you’ve got to get set up in a certain mindset to pray in a certain place and whatever. But prayer is actually very, very simple. This is the letter peh. It’s a picture of the mouth. This is a shepherd’s staff, the letter lamed. And so, this letter is used to mean “to” because the shepherd’s staff is something that provides direction to the sheep. And it also just means shepherd.

So, when you talk to the shepherd, you’re praying. It’s that simple. Prayer is not difficult. So, if Father has these angels that are designated to be ministering spirits to us and part of the ministry of His Holy Spirit is prayer, all they’re doing is talking to Father about us. They’re doing palal. And we see examples of that in the Old Testament.

One of them is in the book of Zechariah where there’s an angel who is petitioning Father saying, “O Lord of hosts, how long wilt Thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah against which Thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?”

So, there is an angel talking to Father, palal, praying to Father about people here on earth. And Father answers.

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: So, they clearly do. But notice that none of the prophets pray to an angel.

Dawson: Right.

Carlos: Okay? Notice none of the apostles pray to an angel.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: So, we do not. We pray to Father, but we do thank Him that He has angels watching over us.

Dawson: Yes.

Carlos: Because, yeah, I should have gone a few times. I think He pulled me out.

Dawson: Yeah, using angels. Yeah.

Carlos: I used to say as a kid, I was meant to be here.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: Yeah. So, I think He took care of me.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: I’m sure some of you have the same testimony.

Dawson: I do.

Carlos: Yeah, He took care of you.

Dawson: Yeah, for sure. So let me give you the argument that people have against this. And let’s talk about the mediator issue as well to clear that up for everybody.

Carlos: This is bonus to know that Father set up people in – not people, angels interceding for us.

Dawson: Yes. So, we got backup.

Carlos: We got backup. Amen.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: You know, He always makes it good for us.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: Amen. Hallelujah.

Dawson: Yes. So, in Hebrews, it says Christ Jesus is interceding for us. So, one of the thoughts that people have is, well, if He’s interceding for us, then why do we need anybody else to intercede for us? But the bigger one that they use is Paul’s words in 1 Timothy, when he says, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man, Christ Jesus.”

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: Yashua is indeed 100% the mediator between us and God. Without Him, you can’t go pray and intercede for anything. No one can go and pray and intercede on your behalf. You end up like the fallen angels. There’s no mercy for them.

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: You have no audience with the King.

Carlos: But they do report to Father.

Dawson: Yeah, so Yashua is the mediator. He’s the mediator of the covenant. He’s the agreement that we have with Father, the reason that we’re even accepted before Father. But that’s different from intercession. And if you look just a few verses earlier in 1 Timothy, Paul makes it super clear that it’s different. So, he tells us, the fellowship of believers, to intercede and to pray for one another.

So, you can’t have it both ways. You can’t say that Yashua is the only intercessor. And then two verses earlier, Paul is saying, “Okay, guys, intercede for one another.” So, we intercede for one another. Father has established angels as ministering spirits to intercede for us. And that is different from Yashua being our mediator.

Carlos: It’s bonus.

Dawson: Yes, it’s bonus. It’s awesome.

Carlos: Bonus.

Dawson: It’s awesome. So, like we saw with Zechariah and what Yeshua said about the little ones having angels, it is in the Bible that angels talk to Father on our behalf. And it’s just a bit more clear in the book of Enoch.

Carlos: They help without us knowing. It tells us the apostle wrote in Revelation that an angel takes incense with our prayers to make sure Father hears them.

Dawson: Yeah, that’s interceding for us.

Carlos: Whatever that is, I like it.

Dawson: Yeah, we need it.

Carlos: I like it.

Dawson: We’ll take it.

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: So, in Enoch, he says that Father said, “Go say to the watchers of heaven who have sent thee to intercede for them. You, the angels, should intercede for men and not men for you.” So that’s very clear.

Carlos: That you know right there.

Dawson: And then later in chapter 40, we’re going to talk about the four angels that are around His throne. And part of their job is to pray and to intercede for us because Father wants, for whatever reason that we love and that we’ll take – He wants constant reminders of us right before Him.

Carlos: Amen. Somewhere in the Bible, one of the prophets wrote to always pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

Dawson: Yes, we pray.

Carlos: We always end with letting Father know, Shalom unto Jerusalem. May Yashua return quick and rule from there.

Dawson: Yes.

Carlos: That’s what it means.

Dawson: Yeah. So, hopefully that clears that up. And next time around, we are going to talk about Yashua and one of his names in the book of Enoch.

Carlos: A lot of names.

Dawson: Yes, He has a lot of names.

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: So …

Dawson: One of His names is The Name.

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: So, I always remind now I want to – because our tapes are seen on an ongoing basis. We really want to let you know again. I feel this in my heart and spirit. There is only one book of Enoch. There is no number two and no number three. Now there are versions of number one.

Dawson: Right.

Carlos: But none of those would fight the word of the Lord. And you have to see how it would be said in Ge’ez. Amen.

Dawson: That’s, yeah, the language. So, Enoch is preserved fully in the language Ge’ez, which is ancient Ethiopian. And there’s also Aramaic fragments that have been found in the Dead Sea Scrolls. There are portions in Greek, a good deal in Greek. And in a couple other languages, like Latin and Coptic, but very small.

Carlos: But this is Original Hebrew.

Dawson: Yes. So, what we do, Hebrew is the language from Father. It’s the language that He created. He created the alphabet for us.

Carlos: It’s okay if you love Greek or Aramaic. We’re not against it.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: This is what we have in our heart to study and share with Father’s children. But Greek is fine. Aramaic, Babylonian, whatever you want. It’s all good.

Dawson: So, whenever we have a question on something, we try to convert it back to Hebrew to get the understanding on it. That’s what we’ve been doing throughout this series.

Carlos: Amen. Will that be it?

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: So, shalom unto Jerusalem.

Dawson: Shalom, everybody.

About the series:

Our Book of Enoch Bible Study series offers a down-to-earth look at this often sensationalized text. Instead of focusing mainly on fallen angels, our goal is to learn the heart of our Father and gain understanding of the Old and New Testament Scriptures that parallel Enoch’s words. Throughout this series, we’ll read together and discuss:

  • Life before the Flood
  • How sin and transgression caused GOD to destroy His creation,
  • Enoch’s epic prophecies covering the history of humanity and Israel,
  • The many passages in Enoch that point to YASHUA HA MASHIACH (JESUS CHRIST),
  • The ancient calendar of Israel,
  • End-times prophecies and how Father will protect us through the days to come, and
  • What life will be like in Millennium.

Enoch is a remarkably full book that sheds light on everything from Genesis to Revelation, so, in our view, to understand Enoch is to better understand the entire Bible.
