Book of Enoch Bible Study Ep 4 - GOD's Judgment Revealed (Chapter 9-10:12)

In this episode, we review how, when GOD pronounced judgment on Azazel, the fallen angels, and their offspring before the Flood, HE first made provisions to save the righteous. We also discuss why Moses wrote that Noah was “perfect in his generations,” and how observing Yom Kippur is connected to a key verse in the Book of Enoch about the angel Azazel.

This is part 4 of a full study of the Book of Enoch (also known as 1 Enoch). In this series, we’re reading through the entire Book of Enoch, providing commentary on each chapter, and discussing parallel Scriptures from the Bible.

Transcript:

Dawson: In our last episode, we read about how the earth had become ruined and destroyed by the actions of fallen angels and fallen men and women. In this next chapter of the Book of Enoch, we’re going to see that not all angels are fallen. One of our Father’s names is the Lord of Hosts, and the word “hosts” literally means armies.

So, He is the Lord of Armies. He is commander of a great army of angels who remain loyal to Him to this very day. And when these loyal angels of our God saw everything that was going on in the earth before the flood, they were ready for action. So they went to our Father, and they asked Him what they should do about everything that was going on.

If you ever find yourself worrying about fallen angels, just remember this, greater are those who are with us than those who are with them.

Chapter 9, verse 1, “And then Michael, Uriel, Raphael, and Gabriel looked down from heaven and saw much blood being shed upon the earth and all lawlessness being wrought upon the earth.”

“And they said to one another, the earth made without inhabitant cries the voice of their crying up to the gates of heaven.”

“And now to you, the holy ones of heaven, the souls of men make their suit, saying, ‘Bring our cause before the highest.’”

“And they said to the Lord of the ages, Lord of lords, God of gods, KING of kings, and God of the ages, the throne of Thy glory standeth unto all generations of the ages, and Thy name holy and glorious and blessed unto all the ages.”

“Thou hast made all things, and power over all things hast thou, and all things are naked and open in Thy sight, and Thou seest all things, and nothing can hide itself from Thee.”

“Thou seest what Azazel hath done, who hath taught all unrighteousness on earth, and revealed the eternal secrets which were preserved in heaven, which men were striving to learn.”

“And Semjaza, to whom Thou hast given authority to bear rule over his associates.”

“And they have gone to the daughters of men upon the earth, and have slept with the women, and have defiled themselves, and revealed to them all kinds of sins.”

“And the women have borne giants, and the whole earth has thereby been filled with blood and unrighteousness.”

“And now behold, the souls of those who have died are crying, and making their suit to the gates of heaven, and their lamentations have ascended, and cannot cease, because of the lawless deeds which are wrought on the earth.”

“And Thou knowest all things before they come to pass, and Thou seest these things, and Thou dost suffer them, and Thou dost not say to us what we are to do to them in regard to these.”

The word suffer means to allow. So here we have Father’s good angels asking him, “Why are you allowing this?” and that’s a question that many people have today. There’s one thing to note about what we read here, which is that these angels were created by Father to be powerful warriors. They are part of His army, and they could very well have just taken things into their own hands, but they didn’t.

They went and they asked Father first, and they waited for Father’s instruction. And here is our Father’s instruction to His angels and His army.

Chapter 10, verse 1, “Then said the Most High, the Holy and Great One spake, and sent Uriel to the son of Lamech, and said to him, ‘Go to Noah and tell him in My Name, hide yourself, and reveal to him the end that is approaching, that the whole earth will be destroyed, and a deluge is about to come upon the whole earth, and will destroy all that is on it. And now instruct him, that he may escape, and his seed may be preserved for all the generations of the world.’”

Those words were written over 5,000 years ago, and they are just one of the many examples that the Scriptures give us, that our Father is always the same. He always saves and protects the righteous, whether it’s a local judgment or a worldwide judgment like the Flood, and like the one that is coming at the end of days.

He will protect the righteous, and he will provide instructions in advance so that the righteous can escape. He has a plan. Our Father protected Noah in the same way that he protected Daniel in the lion’s den, and that he protected Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace.

A lot of people are worried about the things that are to come, but through the scriptures and through events in your own life, if you stop and think about it, Father has shown you many, many times that He will protect you, and He will preserve you.

When Moses described Noah, he described him as someone who walked with God. So, if you are someone who walks with God, your God will protect you. Moses also tells us that Noah was perfect in his generations, and in the Bible and in the scriptures and in ancient Hebrew, the concept of a generation is different than the way most people think about it. A generation is not a preset number of years. Your generations from a biblical perspective are your sons, your grandsons, your great-grandsons, and so forth.

So, when Moses says that Noah was perfect in his generations, he’s saying that there was something perfect about Noah’s descendants. The word for “perfect” in Hebrew is “tamim,” which means blameless and without blemish. And the way the word “tamim” is used in the Old Testament has to do with offerings, because our offerings that we make to Father should be without blemish. They should be “tamim”.

Now Noah’s kids were without blemish. They were “tamim,” because Noah wasn’t out there mixing with fallen angels. His children were not Nephilim. He was perfect in his generations.

So, the very first thing that Father says in His response to His angels is protect the righteous, and next He will tell us what His judgment is going to be on all the angels.

Verse four, “And again the Lord said to Raphael, ‘Bind Azazel hand and foot and cast him into the darkness and make an opening in the desert which is in Dudael and cast him therein and place upon him rough and jagged rocks and cover him with darkness and let him abide there forever and cover his face that he may not see light and on the day of the great judgment he shall be cast into the fire.’”

Some people believe that the angel Azazel is actually Satan, and we’re going to talk about that theory later down the line in this Book of Enoch Bible study, once we’ve gathered more information about Azazel.

But there is one thing I wanted to point out here, which is in verse five, if Azazel were Satan, the Bible tells us that Satan is roaming about like a roaring lion seeing who he might devour, and it talks about how Satan showed up in front of Father and inquired about Job. So that doesn’t sound like someone or like something that is currently bound. And Azazel from these verses, it sounds like he’s bound until the day of judgment when he’s cast into the fire.

And so, when I looked into verse five more closely, the more modern translation instead of the words “forever,” it says for an exceedingly long time. And so, I went and I tried to see if there was an Aramaic fragment for this verse, and unfortunately there’s not. I’m going to put on screen for you guys how you can look up what Aramaic fragments of the Book of Enoch there are, because there’s a good resource out there that’s free.

And so, there’s no fragment for this verse. So, I took a look at the ancient Ethiopian, and in the ancient Ethiopian, the words are not “forever,” but they are “for a very long time”. So, it’s possible if Azazel is indeed the devil, that what this verse is saying is that he was bound for a very long time, and then later released.

And ultimately on the day of judgment, he will be cast into the fire. And the devil, as we know, if you’ve studied revelation, the devil is cast into the fire at the end of millennium. So that’s something that we’ll come back to down the line.

Continuing with verse six, Father’s instructions to Raphael. Father says, “And heal the earth, which the angels have corrupted.” The name Raphael in Hebrew means God has healed.

So, He tells His angel, who he named Raphael, “Heal the earth, which the angels have corrupted, and proclaim the healing of the earth, that they may heal the plague, and that all the children of men may not perish through the secret things that the watchers have disclosed and have taught their sons.”

“And the whole earth has been corrupted through the works that were taught by Azazel, to him ascribe all sin.”

Now, as you saw earlier, Azazel and these lawless angels, they came teaching knowledge that men were striving to learn. So, it’s not like the angels forced sin upon man. Man was begging for it. And we’re going to see that later in the book of Enoch as well.

So, for Father to say, “Ascribe to Azazel all sin,” is an amazing act of mercy that our Father did for us. He’s going to put it on Azazel and the word “Azazel” is actually in the Bible. But it’s not shown in your Bible as Azazel. It’s shown as scapegoat. We talked about this in our video called “Adam and the Nephilim”. So let me play that clip for you here and then we’ll come back to the rest of chapter 10.

Demons and their judgment is put on hold until the end. So, one thing …

Carlos: Did you come to torment us before our time?

Dawson: Before our time? Yeah. Because …

Carlos: It’s not time yet.

Dawson: It’s not time yet. Yeah.

Carlos: They were told by Hanuk the time.

Dawson: Yeah. But that judgment is coming. And it’s written that those fallen angels and those demons will be destroyed in the final judgment. And in particular, the angel Azazel, who was responsible for teaching men warfare, the weapons of war, things related to vanity, like the bracelets, the ornaments, the beautification, and things related to money. So, the silver, the gold, the costly stones. Father said that it was those things in particular that corrupted the earth.

Carlos: Amen.

Dawson: And for that, Father said, “Ascribe all sins to Azazel.”

Carlos: You know, as we go down the timeline, there comes a character in the mind called Nimrod. And it seems he had those three gifts given to him by the angels after the Flood. Because as we know in the Bible, it says before and after the Flood.

Dawson: Right.

Carlos: So, it looks to me, it was just peaceful villages until one of the angels or the Nephilim after the flood gave him those gifts. And there you have it. You have weapons, armory, how to beautify yourself. And then the best, teach them to use money. Now you could hire an army. So, he made the first army. Blame it on Azazel. And even to today.

Dawson: Yeah. It’s an act of Father’s mercy that He said “Ascribe all sins to Azazel.”

Carlos: It is mercy, nothing but.

Dawson: Yeah. Because it’s very clear that it was mankind that was part of sinning. They searched these things out. The Book of Enoch is very clear about that. The Bible is very clear about that as well. It’s not that you have – the devil didn’t make you do it.

Carlos: No, no, no.

Dawson: You did it yourself.

Carlos: Look, if for any reason we lived back in those days and we were like we are now, know Father. And we saw an angel that wanted to mate, oh, no way. You know, rebuke you in the name of Yeshua, get out, you know, run. But these people, they actually, they actually made it with these angels. There’s something – let’s face it. They were already in sin.

Dawson: Yeah. Yeah. And they wanted to learn enchantments and they wanted to learn all of these things.

Carlos: Exactly.

Dawson: So, so Father says, “Ascribe all sins to Azazel.” And there’s actually one of the feast days of the Lord is an annual, part of it anyway, is an annual commemoration of Father ascribing the sins to Azazel. So, if you’ve ever read about the Day of Yom Kippur or what’s called the Day of Atonement, it involves two goats. And one of them in English is called the scapegoat. But in Hebrew, if you were to look at it, it’s actually Azazel and the ritual that Father wanted Israel to do on that day is they take the two goats and they draw lots.

And one lot falls for Father, and the other one falls for Azazel. And the one that falls for Father, that goat gets sacrificed as a sin offering for the people. And the lot that falls on Azazel, the goat that ends up being for Azazel, the priests go and they put hands on the goat, and they confess all the sins, all of the sins, the chata, the iniquity, the avon, the trespasses, the pesha, all of those things onto the head of the goat for Azazel.

And then they take that goat and they cast him off into the wilderness. So, it’s a picture of what Father did for us back then, which is He ascribed all sins to Azazel, and He cast him out into the desert wilderness by the hand of the angels back in the day.

Carlos: There we go.

Dawson: So that he could have mercy on the people.

Carlos: Chesed.

Dawson: Chesed, yeah.

Carlos: Chesed. In Hebrew, mercy. Chesed.

Dawson: Yeah.

Carlos: If you hang around long enough at fathersalphabet.com, or Original Hebrew, you’re going to learn Hebrew.

Dawson: Little Hebrew, yeah.

Carlos: Yeah, little by little.

Dawson: Getting back to Enoch chapter 10 verse 9, “And to Gabriel,” another one of Father’s good angels, “to Gabriel said the Lord, ‘Proceed against the bastards and the reprobates and against the children of fornication and destroy the children of fornication and the children of the watchers from amongst men and cause them to go forth. Send them one against the other that they may destroy each other in battle for length of days shall they not have.’”

A bastard is someone who Father will not allow to inherit anything and who is not allowed to join His congregation. And that same sense is applied to the word reprobate, which is a bit easier to understand because reprobate comes from the Latin word “probare,” which means approve.

So, probate means approved and the “re” part of the word in the front means not. So reprobate means not approved. Here, Father is instructing His angel Gabriel to get rid of the offspring that are not approved and who he will not allow to join His congregation of mankind, who He actually wants on the earth.

Verse 10, “And no request that they,” that is their fathers, “make of thee shall be granted unto their fathers on their behalf, for they hope to live an eternal life and that each one of them will live 500 years.”

Part of Father’s judgment has to do with lifespan and with cutoffs. So, the angels who came down and sinned will no longer be eternal and the unapproved Nephilim offspring of the fallen angels will not even be allowed to live another 500 years.

And this verse is kind of a companion verse to Genesis 6 verse 3, where Moses writes that the Lord says, “My spirit shall not always strive with man for that he also is flesh. Yet his days shall be 120 years.”

A more literal translation of that verse is, “My spirit will not plead with a man forever. His days will become 120 years.” So, Father had determined at this time, and Genesis 6 verse 3 is right in the middle of Moses’s description of the Nephilim and the fallen angels and the giants. And right in the middle of it, he talks about man, man’s years being limited or becoming limited to 120 years.

So, putting it all together, what we see is that during this time when Father finally announces His judgment, because of what’s going on before the flood, it’s a judgment against the angels. No more eternity for you guys. A judgment against their offspring. You have less than 500 years to live and a judgment against mankind. In the beginning, in the days of Adam and of the early patriarchs, mankind lived a long time.

But once all of this lawlessness happened before the flood, what Father did back here is He’s saying there is going to be a maximum limit. And that maximum limit is 120 years, which today is considered to be the max lifespan of man, scientifically. So exactly as he said, his days will become 120 years. That is what has happened.

Verse 11, “And the Lord said unto Michael, ‘Go, bind Semjaza and his associates, who have united themselves with women, so as to have defiled themselves with them in all their uncleanness. And when their sons have slain one another, and they have seen the destruction of their beloved ones.’”

Now remember just a few verses earlier, Father had spoken to Gabriel to send them against each other so they could destroy each other. So now He’s telling Michael that once that has happened, “Once their sons have slain one another, and they have seen the destruction of their beloved ones, bind them fast for 70 generations in the valleys of the earth, till the day of their judgment and of their consummation, till the judgment that is forever and ever is consummated.”

There are a few scriptures in the New Testament that confirm what Enoch is saying here, which is that the angels were bound and one of those scriptures is Jude chapter 1, verse 6. It says, “And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation,” these are the angels who left heaven, “He hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.”

And Peter also talks about the angels being bound and he talks about how God did not spare the angels when they sinned, but cast them deep into hell, placing them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment.

Now Enoch and Jude and Peter are all saying that these angels will be bound until their day of judgment. So, we can expect that these angels will be unbound when their day of judgment commences. And in the scriptures, it does talk about a time to come when angels will be unbound.

One of the places you’ll see that is in Revelation chapter 9, where it talks about a star that is an angel that’s given the key to the bottomless pit. And locusts come out of the pit, and those locusts are given power like scorpions. And their job is to hurt anyone who doesn’t have the seal of God on their foreheads. So, they won’t touch Father’s children, but they will hurt anyone who has the mark of the beast at that time.

Isaiah also talks about the angels at the end of days. And it says in Isaiah 24, verses 21 and 22, “It shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. And they shall be gathered together as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison. And after many days shall they be visited.”

Revelation 17 talks about the beast who ascends out of the bottomless pit. And lastly, Daniel 8 talks about how the devil is going to cast down some of the hosts of heaven and trample them on the ground.

So, when the time of the judgment of these angels commences, there’s going to be more angelic activity on the earth with all of these, the hosts of the devil and the fallen angels. But remember, greater are those who are with us than those who are with them. And your Father has made provisions for you for those days already.

And we will see that more and more and more as we go through the Book of Enoch. So, Enoch said that these angels are going to be bound until the day of their judgment. And he actually gives us a timeframe for how long they’re bound.

He said, “Bind them fast for 70 generations till the day of their judgment.” So, at the end of 70 generations will be the end of days. So where are we in that 70-generation timeline? Next time, we’re going to talk about why we believe we are the 70th generation in Enoch’s 70-generation prophecy.
